Nov. 17 Notes Parallel and Perpendicular

Parallel and Perpendicular Line Segments


Line segments - a line with a beginning and an end. A piece of a line. You know a line ends when it has dots at each end.
Line segments are labeled with letters.

Intersecting - lines that cross or meet.


Parallel - describes lines in the same plane that never cross, or intersect
- they are marked using "arrows"


Perpendicular
- describes lines that intersect at right angles (90 degrees)
- they are marked using a small square

Create a Problem

Create a BEDMAS problem using every number from 1-9, brackets, exponents, multiplication, division, adding, subtracting, and it must equal 7.

Adding and Subtracting Decimal numbers
Estimate - to approximate an answer.
Over estimate - estimate that is larger than the actual number
Under estimate - estimate that is smaller than the actual number

Front End Estimation: that is using only the highest place value when estimating. eg. 125 + 476 = turns into 100 + 400 =
It is like under estimating.

Relative Size Estimation: rounding to the nearest highest place value.
eg. 125 + 476 = turns into 100 + 500 =
125 is between 100 and 200 but closer to 100
476 is between 400 and 500 but closer to 500
It is like rounding.

Estimating - getting an approximate answer.
Calculating - getting an exact answer.

Thanksgiving weekend homework

Your homework is to complete pages 4 - 9. You should be finished the first 3 pages already but if you haven't used your time wisely you will have more work to do this weekend. If you want to work ahead you can complete the entire first chapter, pages 1-13. That will be homework Tuesday and Wednesday.

Most importantly cheer on the Chiefs as they play the Colts this Sunday. Be ready to make a proper fraction out of the final score of the game.
